Sam Mycock is a promising top order Batsman from Wellington in New Zealand. In the process of completing his schooling, Sam juggled playing school cricket for Rongotai College, club cricket for Victoria University and the Wellington age group sides.
A powerful right-hander, he is an attacking top order Batsman who hits a clean ball. Sam has represented his native Wellington through the age groups and comes highly recommended by Firebirds and New Zealand star, Devon Conway. Sam is also a trusty wicket-keeper and capable right-arm off-spinner.
In winter 2018 & 2019, he toured India with the Hutt Hawks prior to Sam having his first season in the UK in 2019. Joining Sawley & Long Eaton CC in Derbyshire, Sam scored 594 runs @ 29.70 with 4 half centuries. Whilst statistically, his season never really got going, Sam played in a number games for our WSX XI against various county’s throughout the 2019 summer and certainly looks a much better player than the numbers suggest.
Sam returned to the UK in 2022, linking with Hayle CC in the ECB Cornwall Premier Division. He fell just short of the 1000-run mark, scoring 943 runs @ 34.93 in an excellent season for this promising young man. He re-joined the club for 2023 and was against excellent in a rain affected season, scoring 726 runs @ 36.30 with a best of 101*. He also picked up 9 wickets @ 20.67 with his part-time Offies.
Sam joined Hucknall CC in the ECB Notts Premier League for 2024 and was outstanding, scoring 1332 runs @ 57.91 with his summer boosted by news of his first professional contract with Wellington being offered mid season.
Seeking another season abroad next summer, Sam will be a great pick up for a club seeking a promising young Batsman that can take the gloves or bowl some off-spin. Off the field he is a cracking young man and will be a good social fit with most clubs.
