Sami Sohail is an exciting young talent, born in Pakistan but raised in Malawi. An aggressive opening Batsman, Sami is also a very capable right-arm medium/fast seamer that has been an integral part of the Malawi National team who have given the other emerging African nations something to think about when it comes to the T20 World Cup qualifiers.

An explosive right-hander, Sami has been a standout for Malawi since his T20I debut in 2019. His 614 runs in 19 innings has given Malawi imposing starts to their innings with a career best 94* (60) coming in the recent World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho in November 2022. His 32 wickets @ 14.65 with the ball have been equally impressive at an excellent economy rate and a real knack for picking up wickets when his side need them.

In 2022, Sami linked with the Chicago Tigers in the USA Minor League Cricket (MiLC) competition, playing alongside South African domestic stars, the Dolphins’ Marques Ackerman & former Dolphins/Cobras/SA U19 all-rounder, Calvin Savage. Two experienced campaigners who both rate young Sami as highly as any young cricketer they’ve played with or against is a ringing endorsement for the young man’s talent.

What is more impressive is his infectious attitude and love for the game. With his strength and conditioning background and despite being only 19 at the time, Sami has taken charge of the physical development of his teammates and is seen as a genuine leader amongst his peers.

Sami was given an excellent opportunity to play in the UK as a professional for the first time in 2023, signing for Eckington CC in the ECB Derbyshire Premier League. He was solid in his first UK stint, with 628 runs @ 34 and 24 wickets @ 23, showing the top Associate players can be relevant contributors here at Premier league level.

With lots of upward curve, Sami will be an excellent pick up for any UK club seeking a hard-hitting all-rounder for next summer that is keen to continue making his mark on the cricket field be it through club or International cricket.
