Siddhesh Lad

Siddhesh is a gifted batting allrounder who has been one of the longest serving players for the powerful Mumbai side which is a feat in itself. A studious, tenacious batsman with a steady temperament, he emerged as Mumbai’s “crisis man” while still relatively new at first-class level. Under the tutelage of Pravin Amre, he swiftly ascended through the age-group circuit in Mumbai to make his first-class debut in November 2013, at the age of 21. He showed his mettle in just his second match, scoring impressive fifties against a Delhi attack that included Ashish Nehra. After battling through injuries and illness, Lad came back to have good seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Often batting in the lower middle order, he stood out for his calmness under pressure and sensible approach to batting with the tail. These traits came to the forefront in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy final, when Lad scored 88 and was instrumental in the 103-run, 10th-wicket stand that set up Mumbai’s victory.

Siddhesh was the captain of the Western Wolves team in the Toyota University Cricket Championship. His father, Dinesh Lad, is the coach of Indian international batsman Rohit Sharma. In the 2015 Indian Premier League, he was selected to play for the Mumbai Indians. In January 2018, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL auction. On 10 April 2019, he finally made IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Kings XI Punjab in 2019 Indian Premier League replacing the injured Rohit Sharma. He hit a six off the first ball he faced in his IPL career scoring 15 runs in the match before being dismissed. In November 2019 Kolkata Knight Riders have included him for IPL 2020.

He was the leading run-scorer for Mumbai in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, with 652 runs in seven matches. In August 2018, he was released from his squad in the Quadrangular Series and added to India Red’s team for the second match of the 2018–19 Duleep Trophy. In the match, he scored a half-century in each innings, and was named the man of the match, as India Red progressed to the final.

Siddhesh has ventured twice to the Uk, the first time was in 2021 where he played for Chorley CC in the Northern Premier league. He had a fantastic season scored 1099 runs at 42.27 and chipped in with 32 wickets at 22.80. In 2022 he signed for Darwen in the Lancashire league where again he was prolific scoring 1502 runs at 51.79 and took 38 wickets at 17.79. He is considering a return to these shores again for the 2027 season.

One of the most sought after professionals for his allround ability and also a great club man and worth ethic around the club he would be a top draw signing for any club. Siddhesh will be travelling with his wife and child.
