Stiaan van Zyl

Stiaan van Zyl is a high-class, former International Batsman from South Africa’s Western Cape region of Boland. A schoolboy star, he progressed through the Boland ranks at age group level and debuted for Boland just after his 19th Birthday in summer 2006-07 against Kei. He went on to become one of South African domestic cricket’s most consistent performers, leading to his selection for the Proteas and subsequent debut in December 2014. It was a memorable one, scoring 101* (130) in a huge innings win over the West Indies.

Stiaan would go on to represent the Proteas in 12 Tests but opted to sign a Kolpak contract with Sussex in 2017, where he would spend the next 4 full seasons through to the end of the 2021 English summer. He returned to his native Boland Province in the restructured South African domestic system ahead of the 2021-22 summer.

A left-hander with a classic cover drive, Stiaan fancied himself as a quick bowler in his youth and has shown throughout his career that he contribute with the ball with his tidy Right-arm seam picking up 3-20 in a Test match against England at Durban, dismissing Bairstow, Woakes & Broad in the space of 6 balls.

Having scored 2,613 runs for Sussex @ 39.59 in English Conditions, Stiaan is seeking a return to the UK in 2025 for the right opportunity. His wife and little one will visit for a few weeks mid-summer.
