Tayo is a talented top order Batsman from Cape Town, South Africa. A powerful right-hander, Tayo is a stroke-making opener that scores his runs at better than a run-a-ball on most occasions. He was a regular in the Western Province age group sides through his schooling and featured for WP at the National U17 & U19 weeks. He went on to debut for Western Province in October 2019 and made 3 appearances for the Cape Cobras Franchise side at the end of the 2019-20 summer.
Having played Premier league cricket since 2016-17, he felt a significant improvement in his game at the men’s level since training through the University of Western Cape and with his move to Rondebosch CC over the next two Western Cape summers, albeit a short summer in 2017-18, his game really started to progress.
Tayo had a short season in the UK in 2019 with Hornsey CC in Middlesex, making 12 appearances, scoring 250 runs @ 20.83 was most beneficial for his game. Playing on some bowler friendly English wickets for the first time, whilst not helping his average, helped his game and he used the experience to push on into his professional debut just a couple of months after his return.
He returned to Europe in 2021 with some more experience under his belt and linked with HBS Craeyanhout alongside Cape Town friend and team mate, Ryan Klein. Tayo was exceptional, scoring 780 runs @ 65.00 in just 15 innings, with a best of 171* and the club quickly took steps to seek to retain this fine young batsman.
Tayo will be popular pick amongst the KNCB teams looking for a blazing top order Batsman to join them for next summer.
