Thamsanqa Kumalo

Thamsanqa “Thami” Kumalo is an exciting Top Order Batsman from Ntuzuma in the northern suburbs of Durban. A flashy left-hander, Thami is also a tidy Off-spinner. Although not used in First Class Cricket but was used in age group representative cricket and at school, the prestigious Glenwood College. His natural attacking flair has seen him secure an opening slot for Kwa-Zulu Natal and has been a standout for them with five half-centuries in just the eight matches so far.

Having been a regular feature at the top of the order for KZN Coastal from U13 right through to U19 level, Thami’s performances have improved with each jump in standard. Picked more on promise than performance in the younger age groups, he returned the faith at the back of his youth representative career with not only an outstanding displays for the Dolphins Cubs but also being selected for the South African U19 side to tour England in 2018 and India in 2019.

Prior to the Indian tour, Thami had been selected to make his professional debut, an appearance opening the batting for the Dolphins Franchise side. Whilst it would not be as fruitful as he’d have hoped for, he has gone on to represent his native Kwa-Zulu Natal across all three formats since with varying degrees of success, finding his perfect format in One-Day cricket, having scored 382 runs @ 47.75 in just 8 games to date.

Seeking his first season abroad in 2024, Thami has previous UK experience with the South African U19 tour of 2018 under his belt and will be a great pick up for an electric exciting top order dasher for next summer. Thami is also a Cricket South Africa Level One coach.
