Tyrese Karelse

Tyrese is a talented all-round prospect currently playing first class cricket for South Western Districts. A left-handed Middle Order batsman, Tyrese is also a tidy medium pace seamer that represents Union Stars in the South Western Districts Premier League when not on duty for the Badgers. He represented South Africa at the 2020 ICC Under 19 World Cup.

Tyrese made his first-class debut on 3 October 2019, for SWD in the 2019–20 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup. He made his List A debut the same week in the 2019–20 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge. Two months later, he was named in South Africa’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup to be played at home.

A stylish top order batsman, with good timing and shots all around the wicket, Tyrese has been on the scene for a while since his debut as an 18-year old. A hard working cricketer, he has been an SWD representative since he was 13 and progressed through every age group through to the senior provincial side.

A useful medium pace bowler with natural swing and seam, he bowls with excellent control and economy but is used sparingly in the professional game.

Seeking to head to the UK for the first time in 2025, Tyrese joined Plymstock CC in Devon. He was a strong contributor for the club, scoring 1075 runs @ 37.07 and bagging 49 wickets @ 20.35.

Tyrese will be a good option for any club seeking a young seam bowling all-rounder keen to again show his wares abroad next summer.
