Tyron Koen is a high quality emerging all-rounder from Durban in South Africa. A schoolboy star, Tyron was 1st XI captain of Westville Boys High School and has been a high class performer for his native Kwa-Zulu Natal province through the age groups. In summer 2016-17, he made his First Class and List A debut’s for KZN.
A strapping Left-handed middle order batsman and right-arm Fast Medium bowler, Tyron has captained his province at U19 level but was also the Dolphins Cubs Franchise vice captain at the Cricket South Africa Cubs week in 15-16. A mature character, Tyron has balanced school and provincial age group cricket with regular appearances for his club side, Pinetown CC in the Natal Premier League. Having represented PCC in the Natal Premier league since he was 15, Tyron has always been in the provinces sights for higher honours. In Summer 2015-16 he accrued 264 runs @ 26.4 with a best of 65 against Topham CC and picked up 19 wickets @ 12.79, with an outstanding best bowling performance of 5-14 against University of KZN CC.
Making his First Class debut in November 2016, Tyron’s impact was immediate, dismantling the SWD top order with 3-20 (9), he followed this up with 3-9 (7) in his List A debut 3 days later. A more than useful middle order batsman, Tyron has shown in limited opportunities that he is comfortable at the top level bat in hand with a couple of solid scores including a an excellent maiden First Class fifty, where by he joined the crease at 6-84 and scored 50 (64) of the next 63 runs to add some respectability to KZN’s total of 147.
With a solid, part-season of UK Cricket under his belt in 2017, as a late replacement for Tino Best at Mildenhall CC in the ECB East ANglian Premier League, he backed this up with another solid season in 2018 with EAPL rivals, Burwell & Exning CC, scoring 495 runs @ 49.50 with three hundreds and a best of 126* to go with 29 wickets @ 20.17 with a best of 5-35.
His 2019 return with Burslem was not as successful personally but he left the club sitting at the top of the table. His 408 runs @ 27.20 and 24 wickets at 19.21 were a solid contribution without being excpetional but once again Tyron made a great impression off the field with club juniors and club members alike. He joined Ardmore CC in 2021, playing in the North West Cricket Union Premier League, scoring 487 runs @ 34.78 and bagging 31 wickets at an impressive 16.51 with a best of 5-19. Tyron remained in Ireland for 2022, remaining with Ardmore CC and again, was a strong contributor with 378 runs and 36 wickets @ 12.66 with a best of 7-5.
Tyron is a keen club man and a good prospect who has an infectious love for the game and will be a great pick up for a club seeking a genuine all-rounder for next summer.
Tyron resides in the UK on a Spousal Visa.
