Cephas Zhuwao is an hard-hitting, left-handed, opening batsman and occasional slow left-arm Orthodox spinner from Zimbabwe. Nicknamed “Big Bully”, Cephas made his ODI debut at 23 and would wait almost 10 years for another ODI opportunity which no doubt was a result of an outstanding 2017-18 domestic campaign.
After smoking 265 (318) against the Midlands Rhinos in what was, despite 10+ years of domestic cricket, his 1st First Class hundred, he was re-called to the “A” team after a 3-year absence to play against Kenya. He scored 241 runs off 105 balls in 5 games including 131 (52) in game 1, smashing 13 x 6’s & 10 x 4’s. Duly the man of the series, he was promptly re-called to the national side for the World Cup Qualifiers. Cephas would finish the summer with 821 runs @ 58.64 in the Logan cup, with 2 tons and 5 fifties.
Cephas has also had some good success in the UK, Eversley CC (2013), Budleigh Salterton CC (2015), Shaw CC (2016), Sleaford CC (2017), Kelburne CC (2018) and having got stuck into the Lashings side he was invited to play for them on an intermittent basis throughout his various stints.
In summer 2022, Cephas returned to the UK on a short 7-game stint with Camborne CC in the ECB Cornwall Premier League. He hit a season best 125 (120) in a big chase against Wadebridge CC and chipping in with 7 wickets as well
He returned in 2023, joining Barton CC in the Devon League and was at times, his belligerent best, with 665 runs including an unbelievable 254 (129) against Bideford/Littleham/Westward Ho! CC. He also chipped in with 20 wickets. He returned to the UK in 2024, joining Coleraine CC in what was a tough season with bat in hand for Cephas. His bowling was still solid, picking up 20 wickets @ 17.65 with a best of 4-33.
Cephas will be a good pick for any UK club seeking a hard-hitting Top Order Batsman that has shown he is more than an occasional spinner at club level. The feedback on his coaching over the last couple of seasons has been fantastic
