Jack Newby is a high-quality left-handed opening Batsman, born in Islington, London but raised in Cape Town, South Africa. A young talent, Jack was a regular in the Western Province age group teams from U13 right through to the provincial U19 side in 2013. He made a couple of brief appearances for Western Province in 2015 in T20 Cricket. He continued to play for University of Cape Town and performed well at the National University events regularly topping the batting charts. He also consistently averaged over 50 playing club cricket in Cape Town.

Fast forward to 2018 and Jack was rewarded with a debut for the Western Province senior team aginst Gauteng in February ’18, scoring 21 & 49*. He went on to make a further 4 appearances through to the end of the season with scores of 63, 67, 30, 31 & 24. Jack was rewarded with a Semi-Pro contract for the province for summer 2018-19, a positive step in his quest to pursue cricket full time now his studies are completed.

Come summer 2018, Jack made his first season in the UK as a professional one to remember, breaking the ECB East Anglian Premier League runs record at the first attempt. His league form was simply incredible, scoring 1233 runs @ 77.06 in the league scoring 6 x 100’s and 5 x 50’s in an outstanding display.

A return to the UK for 2019 would see Jack’s summer be cruelled by a virus and then a knee injury obtained following a fall whilst jogging, with Middlesborough CC only able to see glimpses of what he can do. Seeking a return in 2021, Jack landed with ECB EAPL defending champions Frinton on Sea CC and was again in the runs, scoring 625 runs @ 44.64 in an up & down campaign for the Essex side.

In summer 2022, Jack linked with Huddersfield Championship club, Skelmanthorpe CC and was at his prolific best. After a steady start, he proceeded to pile on 1763 runs @ 60.79 with 9 x Fifties and 6 x Hundreds with a best of 144. He returned to the club for the 2023 season, again plundering the runs, with 1114 @ 58.63. Niggles and poor form toned down his 2024 numbers, but he still put together 692 runs @ 32.95 with a best of 101 (44) in the Sykes Cup T20 Qtr Final.

Jack holds a UK passport having been born here in the UK and will be an excellent pick up for any UK club seeking a high-end Top order Batsman.
