Jacob Miltz is a talented Wicket-Keeper/Batsman from Johannesburg. A product of St David’s Marist School, the same school Temba Bavuma developed through, Jacob was a schoolboy star and 1/3 of a trio of players that made the Lions Franchise academy in 2018, a first for the School. An attacking right-handed Batsman, Jacob is a reliable gloveman with quick hands and enjoys standing up to the stumps to ensure he can initiate plenty of friendly conversation with the opposition Batsmen.
With no glittering junior provincial career to speak of at the younger ages, Jacob’s first representative selection was for the Lions Franchise Cubs for the 2016-17 Cricket South Africa Franchise Cubs week at just 16 years old. In 4 games, he piled on 201 runs @ 100.50 with scores of 45* against the South African U17 as he led the run chase, 65 (71) against the Knights and 90* (113) against the Dolphins, also in successful run chases. He was promptly selected for the South African U19 side by mid 2017 and would go on to represent South Africa on 7 occasions. His appearances in National colours included two Youth Test Matches against England at Scarborough & Chester-le-Street. His best performance on tour coming in the first test, with a 1st Innings 61 (122) at Scarborough.
Jacob has been one of the most prolific scoreres for the University of Johannesburg in the Gauteng Premier League, whilst also featuring for the Gauteng Academy side on a regular basis. His 2019-20 Academy & Club form saw Jacob earn a First Class debut in January 2020 against Easterns.
Jacob was outstanding for Folkestone CC in the Kent First Division, scoring 938 runs @ 52.11 and he made a number of appearances for the Kent 2nd XI throughout the summer. He returned to the UK in 2022, linking with Bury St Edmunds CC in the ECB East Anglian Premier League, scoring 1010 runs @ 53.16 in a very impressive return. He was awarded the captaincy part-way through the summer, a credit to his natural leadership.
In summer 2023, Jacob linked with ECB Middlesex stalwarts, North Middlesex CC and was excellent, scoring 655 runs @ 38.53 to compliment his 24 scalps with the gloves on.
Holding an EU passport with working rights in the United Kingdom, Jacob will be a fantastic pick up for any club seeking a tidy gloveman and rock-solid top order Batsman to reinforce their 1st XI next summer. Jacob is also a Cricket South Africa Level One coach, the equivalent of an English Cricket Board Level Two qualification.
